Apple Vision Pro Speeds Up Surgery by Almost 20%

A peer-reviewed study from UC San Diego has found that surgeons using Apple Vision Pro experienced a 19% reduction in operative time during tear duct procedure surgeries compared to those using traditional monitors, according to an article published in AJO International. The study, involving 32 endoscopic surgeries, saw surgeons wearing Vision Pro headsets stream the endoscopic video feed directly to their field of view, allowing them to maintain a natural forward-facing posture throughout the procedure.

Average operative time was 34.4 minutes with the Vision Pro, versus 42.7 minutes with a traditional monitor. All surgeries in both groups were successful with no complications, and the five surgeons involved reported lower physical and mental workload when using the headset. Researchers also noted that the Vision Pro was more cost-effective and compact than the monitor setup it replaced, although they stressed that the study's small sample size and preliminary nature require larger trials to confirm the findings.
