Will next resignation of Iran Prez be accepted? Report claims 'ultimatum' by Khamenei

Iran is experiencing heightened political tensions following Israeli media's claim that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a final ultimatum to President Masoud Pezeshkian. According to the report, Khamenei has told Pezeshkian that a future resignation would be accepted, effectively removing one of the president's political pressure tactics.

Pezeshkian had threatened to resign multiple times during disagreements with Iran's leadership over policy, most notably in May when he formally offered to step down due to being sidelined from major national security and foreign policy decisions. Israeli broadcaster Channel 14 claims that Khamenei has now thrown his support behind Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander Ahmad Vahidi, granting him greater influence over strategic decision-making, particularly concerning the United States and the regional conflict.

Khamenei reportedly gave Vahidi the final say on major decisions involving the United States. The report suggests that Iranian leaders believe US President Donald Trump is unlikely to make significant policy changes before the November midterm elections, and Tehran is expected to maintain pressure while maximizing its strategic and economic leverage.

Despite no formal negotiations between Tehran and Washington, indirect communication continues through Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US special envoys, with Qatar and Pakistan acting as mediators. Trump warned Iran of a "last chance" to reach an agreement, emphasizing that the US would pause a planned military strike following Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar's requests for continued diplomatic efforts.

Trump claimed that Iran had publicly denied holding talks despite meeting American officials repeatedly, stating that the talks are ongoing, backed by multiple countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar.
