Trump claims Strait of Hormuz could open by Aug. 4 as Iran denies holding any direct talks

On August 3, U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that the Strait of Hormuz could be fully reopened by August 4 during discussions with reporters. He claimed that negotiations between the United States and Iran are advancing swiftly, with both parties conversing about the strait's reopening. According to Trump, the strait would be "completely open," allowing unimpeded passage for all vessels.

President Trump also stressed the importance of maintaining free access to the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the U.S. would not accept any Iranian fees or tolls for utilizing the maritime route. He emphasized that restoring normal shipping would be the initial phase of the agreement, with further discussions about Iran's nuclear program to follow. Trump highlighted that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons, considering the current talks Tehran's last chance to avert a significant American military strike.

However, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, denied that Tehran was currently engaged in negotiations with Washington, stating that Iran has not officially confirmed any agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Following the termination of a two-week U.S. airstrike campaign against Iran on July 27, Tehran reaffirmed its control over the Strait of Hormuz and expressed no intention of resuming peace talks with Washington.
