Trees felled on Kaifi Azmi road in Banjara Hills for H-CITI project

Several trees were cut down on Banjara Hills Road No.3 in Hyderabad on Tuesday as part of the Hyderabad City Innovative & Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project. The road, renamed after legendary poet Kaifi Azmi in 2012, was the site of 13 trees, all aged 15-20 years, slated for removal. Despite being deemed "damaged," "uprooted," "attacked by termites," and "crooked and root uplifted," the trees appeared healthy to tree enthusiast Varun Phadke.

Phadke noted that there were no signs of infestation or damage, questioning the need for their removal. The Tree Protection Committee had previously approved the felling of 1,532 trees across Banjara Hills, with the Supreme Court's stay on tree cutting near KBR Park shaping the project's locations.
