Rente: Frei versucht ein Machtwort – und will keine Verhandlungen über Rente mit 63

In Berlin, CDU Union Fraktion leader Thorsten Frei is adamant that there is no room for improvement in the pension package due to rising criticism surrounding the planned termination of the contributions-free pension after 45 contribution years. Frei, speaking to Welt TV, firmly stated, "I simply do not see any room for negotiation in this area."

Frei highlighted the agreement reached with the Rent Commission, emphasizing, "We have agreed that the proposals will be fully implemented. This commitment will be upheld, including the abolition of the contributions-free pension at 63." The termination of the contributions-free pension after 45 years is part of a comprehensive proposal for the future of pension security, which the coalition leaders intend to fully execute.

Currently, it is possible to draw the pension at 64.5 years after 45 years of contributions. The original plan began at 63, hence its popular name, "Pension with 63." The SPD-led Ministry of Labor is currently working on the pension reform. Seven out of 16 state premiers have now joined in opposing the proposed termination of early retirement, including five German state leaders from eastern Germany: Manuela Schwesig from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (SPD), Michael Kretschmer (CDU/Saxony), Mario Voigt (CDU/Thuringia) and Sven Schulze (CDU/Saxony-Anhalt) as well as Dietmar Woidke (SPD/Brandenburg).
