No arrest made so far in MQM-P office violence in Karachi, police say

KARACHI: The police have not yet registered a case or made any arrests in connection with a clash that occurred between two factions of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) at their party headquarters in Bahadurabad. This incident, which took place on Sunday evening, left one individual, known as Amir Ali, with bullet wounds.

Eyewitnesses reported that supporters of the Mustafa Kamal-Anis Qaimkhani faction had allegedly attacked their opponents, who belonged to the Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui faction, forcing them out of the party headquarters.

According to the police, the situation was tense with reports of heavy gunfire being exchanged both inside and outside the MQM-P office. Despite certain electronic media outlets claiming that several workers from both groups had been arrested, a senior police officer informed the news agency Dawn that no formal arrests had been made so far. The police had prepared an FIR (First Information Report) regarding the incident, but were currently awaiting higher authorities' approval to proceed with the legal process.

The police officer also clarified that the Bahadurabad headquarters of the MQM-P had not been sealed. Instead, they had increased police patrols and deployments to ensure the safety of residents, who were understandably frightened following the violent clash and the subsequent heavy firing at the MQM-P headquarters.
