NAB recovers Rs2.45tr worth of state assets in second quarter of 2026

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered state assets worth Rs2.45 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, marking a significant leap in AI-powered anti-corruption initiatives. The bureau's efforts intensified during this period, leading to the recovery of more than 1,078,283 acres of state land across Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, and the Islamabad Capital Territory.

This recovery accounted for a substantial portion of the Rs2.45 trillion total value of recoveries, bringing NAB's recovery figure for the first six months of 2026 to Rs5.41 trillion, the highest in the bureau's history. NAB Sukkur led the charge, recovering 853,678 acres of land worth Rs1.01 trillion, mainly from the National Highway Authority and forest and irrigation departments.

NAB Balochistan, on the other hand, recovered 209,544 acres of forest land, including Hingol National Park and Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority land, valued at Rs604.64 billion. NAB Karachi and Lahore also made significant recoveries, with the former retrieving 11,422 acres of illegally allotted state land and the latter recovering 1,909 acres of land worth Rs288.29 billion.

In total, NAB distributed Rs42.30 billion to 24,365 affected individuals in cases of housing and financial fraud. The bureau's recovery efforts have been consolidated through the adoption of the E-Office system and the establishment of the Pakistan Anti-Corruption Academy for workforce training. The AI-based E-Investigation regime is set to revolutionize NAB's approach, leveraging machine learning to prioritize high-risk cases and expedite investigations, minimizing human discretion and ensuring evidence-based, tamper-proof investigations.
