Customs employ 3,852 from 573,680 applicants

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the completion of its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, selecting 3,852 candidates out of 573,680 applicants. Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi revealed that the competition was intense, with the overall success rate of 0.67 per cent, indicating one candidate was chosen for every 148 applicants.

The Superintendent Cadre had the highest number of applicants, with 276,995 people applying for 1,275 positions, representing a success rate of one candidate per 217 applicants. The Inspectorate Cadre saw 128,604 applicants for 367 roles, with a success rate of one applicant per 350 candidates. The Customs Assistant Cadre had the most applicants, with 168,081 people applying for 2,210 positions, translating to a success rate of one candidate per 76 applicants.

Despite the lengthy recruitment process that lasted 20 months, Adeniyi assured unsuccessful applicants that they were not rejected but were simply unlucky in the highly competitive field. The recruitment complied with the Federal Character principle, ensuring equal representation from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with each region receiving an equal allocation of 105 positions across the three cadres.
