Multiple WhatsApp accounts put under review: Reasons, how to appeal & more

Meta-owned WhatsApp has temporarily suspended multiple user accounts for 24 hours following reports of activity violations. The blocked accounts, including those in India, are experiencing restricted access to all features and a message stating "Account in review" with a request to check the activity against terms of service. The disruption was reported around 8 PM IST when users shared their issues on X, formerly Twitter.

The affected users have submitted appeals, but only a generic message is displayed indicating a 24-hour review period. WhatsApp stated it is actively working to address abusive service use and will restore accounts if incorrect bans occur. To submit a review request, users must open the app, select 'Send review request,' and wait for a notification once reviewed.

Only one phone number can be reviewed per appeal, and if the option isn't available, the ban is permanent. Users are reminded they cannot expedite the review process and must not contact WhatsApp during this time. Only WhatsApp has the authority to ban or unban accounts, and third-party services cannot interfere. Account bans occur if the activity violates WhatsApp's Terms of Service, such as spamming, scams, or security compromises.

Users losing access to their chat history and backups must note that backups can only be accessed if the phone number is unbanned.
