Man Utd's George closing in on Brighton move

Manchester United defender Gabby George is reportedly on the verge of joining Brighton & Hove Albion before the start of the Women's Super League season. The 29-year-old midfielder has a year left on her United contract, following the activation of a clause in January. As a result, Brighton are anticipated to pay a significant fee for the versatile player, who transferred to Old Trafford in 2023.

Sources indicate that George is looking for consistent playing time, and her addition would bolster Brighton's ambitions. Throughout her three-year tenure at United, she has contributed with over 50 appearances and was part of the squad that secured the Women's FA Cup title in 2024. George, an Everton academy graduate, had previously amassed over 100 games for her former club before joining United. She has also represented England on three occasions.

Brighton, under manager Dario Vidosic, have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign. The Brighton side have already signed Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo from Hammarby. They finished seventh in the WSL last season and will commence their 2024 season with a home fixture against Arsenal on September 6th (12:00 BST). It was announced on Monday that manager Marc Skinner had departed by mutual consent, and the club is currently exploring potential replacements.
