Man Utd set to appoint ex-Hearts boss Olid as women's manager

Manchester United are poised to hire former Hearts manager Eva Olid as their women's team coach. According to BBC Sport, the 40-year-old Spaniard will meet the United squad on Wednesday to finalize her appointment following Marc Skinner's departure on Monday. This occurred a month before the Women's Super League (WSL) season commences.

Olid led Hearts to their first league title last season in the SWPL and had been with the club since 2021, signing an extension until 2026 with a possible one-year extension. However, she will leave Hearts at the end of the current season by mutual agreement. Olid also guided Hearts to a domestic final but lost to Rangers in the 2024 Scottish Cup.

Under her leadership, Hearts finished fourth for two consecutive seasons before dropping to fifth in 2024-25. They ultimately secured their first silverware by winning by two points over Rangers. Despite these achievements, it appears United has lost faith in their women's team. Skinner, who led United to their first major trophy with a Women's FA Cup win in 2024, departed after five years in charge.

The club has changed its recruitment strategy this year, focusing on younger players to ensure sustainable success. United's first match of the WSL season is against the London City Lionesses on September 4th.
