Man sent for trial over murder of woman in Waterford

A 39-year-old man, Tomas Marvanek, has been charged with the murder of Yveta Donovalova in Waterford city. The incident occurred at Donovalova's home in Grange Heights on April 27th. Donovalova, a 43-year-old mother of three, was found with serious injuries at her residence that evening and was pronounced dead at University Hospital Waterford later that night.

Marvanek is also accused of assault causing harm arising from the same incident. The Director of Public Prosecutions consented on July 3rd for Marvanek to be sent forward for trial at the Central Criminal Court. Marvanek's legal team requested free legal aid, consisting of one senior counsel and one junior counsel, which was granted.

The judge informed Marvanek that he must provide the prosecution with a minimum of 14 days' notice if he intends to use an alibi as part of his defense. Marvanek was remanded in custody to appear before the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court. He was present for the brief hearing and had proceedings translated to him by a Czech translator.
