2026 BECE candidates to select maximum of two category A schools under new CSSPS guidelines

The Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) has issued new guidelines for the 2026 Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) placement process. Candidates who took the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be able to select a maximum of two Category A schools for their placement.

The CSSPS Placement Guide, released on August 3, 2026, outlines the selection process which involves ranking schools based on personal preferences, programme of choice, and accommodation options. Candidates must choose up to three Category B schools and the remaining selections from Category C schools, ensuring that no school is selected more than once.

Placement decisions are based on various factors including aggregate score, programme preference, boarding or day preference, and vacancy availability. While aggregate score is important, it is not the sole determinant of placement. Candidates can choose up to five boarding schools and three day schools, with day schools ideally located within reasonable travel distance from their homes.

Once placed, candidates will receive a placement slip detailing their assigned school, programme, boarding or day status, and the reporting date. Accurate reading and understanding of these guidelines is crucial for successful placement in the upcoming 2026 SHS placement exercise.
