Itauma v Hrgovic upgraded to IBF world-title bout

British heavyweight Moses Itauma's forthcoming fight against Filip Hrgovic on August 29 will be for the vacant IBF world title. At 21 years old, Itauma boasts 12 knockouts in 14 professional victories and is widely regarded as the next star of heavyweight boxing. Promoter Frank Warren revealed that the IBF belt, vacated by Oleksandr Usyk in June, will be contested at London's O2 Arena.

Warren praised Itauma's potential, having sponsored him since he was 16. Initially, Itauma was to negotiate with Cuban Frank Sanchez for the title, but Sanchez has stepped aside, instead facing the winner of Itauma's bout with Hrgovic. Itauma has impressed with wins over Jermaine Franklin and Dillian Whyte. Hrgovic, a 2016 Olympic bronze medallist, has secured 20 professional victories.

A victory for Itauma could set the stage for an all-British unification fight and potentially a rematch with WBO champion Daniel Dubois in October. Should Itauma beat Hrgovic and Sanchez, a fight against Ipswich's Dave Allen or Londoner Daniel Dubois for two world titles may occur at Wembley Stadium in 2027.
