I won’t declare NDC Chairmanship re-election bid before internal elections – Asiedu Nketia

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has revealed his strategy for addressing his re-election candidacy, stating that he will refrain from declaring his intentions until after the party’s internal elections conclude. This decision, as per the NDC leader, aims to preserve his credibility as an electoral officer and prevent accusations of manipulating the process in his favor.

Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, Mr. Nketiah emphasized that his approach has remained consistent throughout his tenure in the NDC leadership. He explained that disclosing his plans before the completion of the internal elections could lead to perceptions that he is influencing the selection of party executives who would subsequently vote in his favor during the national elections.

Mr. Nketiah emphasized that he deliberately delays his declaration of intentions, whether it pertains to re-election or a different position, until he is confident that the party’s internal elections have been conducted fairly and transparently. He stressed that maintaining the trust of party members is crucial for anyone overseeing internal elections.

"If you go now to conduct the branch or constituency elections, people will accuse you that you are selecting constituency executives who eventually come and vote for you," Mr. Nketiah stated. The NDC Chairman made it clear that he will reveal his decision only when nominations for national positions open, allowing the public to make an informed judgment on his future plans.
