Ethyca launches Astralis to govern enterprise AI agents in real time

Enterprise AI governance platform Ethyca Inc. introduced Astralis, an innovative solution designed to keep track of AI agents and their data usage in real time. The company highlights the growing gap between the rapid deployment of AI agents and the ability of compliance teams to monitor them effectively. Notable clients include The New York Times Co., Ramp Business Corp., and Advance Magazine Publishers Inc. Parent company Advance Magazine Publishers Inc. Ethyca's platform aims to bridge the governance gap, which is increasingly becoming a roadblock for AI adoption.

By 2028, Gartner predicts a Fortune 500 company will manage over 150,000 AI agents, up from fewer than 15 in 2022. Astralis employs two core components: a Large Language Regulatory Model that automates privacy and AI assessments - previously taking 40-60 hours now down to 20-40 minutes - and a Purpose-Based Access Control engine that screens data requests and links them to the request's purpose to ensure compliance.

This approach is meant to provide quick risk assessments and maintain data usage limits. Running within a customer's cloud environment, Astralis continuously monitors regulatory changes and alerts internal experts when additional information is needed. With one large U.S. financial institution already leveraging Astralis to automate 6,000 requests per second, Ethyca's CEO Cillian Kieran warns that organizations aren't prepared for the AI wave, and risk teams handling thousands of requests will soon manage millions, creating a barrier to AI adoption.

Kieran emphasizes that automation is the key to unlocking enterprise AI's potential and that most companies have yet to grasp the full extent of the governance challenge. With AI regulations evolving in the U.S. and Europe, Ethyca's launch follows the trend of legal teams restructuring their governance programs around regulatory changes.

Former FTC commissioner and Microsoft chief privacy officer Julie Brill believes that incorporating governance into data infrastructure will treat compliance as an integral part of AI rather than a hindrance. Ethyca introduced its initial privacy engineering tools in 2018 and expanded into AI governance with the launch of Astralis.
