Controversial toilet project beneath Pokuase Interchange demolished

The Ga North Environmental Health and Sanitation Department has started tearing down toilet facilities being built beneath the Pokuase Interchange on the Accra-Kumasi Highway. This comes after previous pledges by the Municipal Chief Executive, Akwetey Agbo, that the project was an initiative led by the assembly. The demolition follows days of heated debates and discussions about who was behind the construction of the sanitation facility.

Speculation had swirled that a private individual was responsible. However, Mr Agbo firmly denied these claims in an interview with JoyNews, stating that the facility was being developed by the assembly itself. He explained that the purpose of the project was to improve transport organization in the area and provide a more structured environment for operators and commuters.

Despite the MCE's assurances, residents in the area expressed concerns about the unfinished and abandoned condition of the facility. They described it as a nuisance due to overgrown bushes and safety hazards, including reports of vehicles falling into the area.
