Boston College radio announcer says he was fired because new coach Luke Murray wants to get rid of 'losing mentality'

Kevin Collins and Josh Maurer, who had been providing play-by-play commentary for Boston College men's basketball games for nearly a decade, were abruptly informed that their services were no longer required when a new coaching staff took over. At first glance, the termination of the announcers did not seem to be directly linked to their roles. However, it turned out that the reason behind their job loss was the new head coach, Luke Murray, who aimed to eliminate any remnants of the program's previous "losing mentality".

The news of Collins' and Maurer's dismissal was shared with them through Deputy Athletic Director Craig Anderson, according to Collins. Murray expressed his desire for a "whole new fresh coat of paint" on the entire program, stating that he wanted no remnants of the past around the program. Despite the fact that neither broadcaster had any direct ties to the coaching staff, Collins felt uncomfortable being associated with the past and challenged Murray to meet him over the offseason.

Murray, however, claimed he was either recruiting or a recruit was in town, and Collins was offered to work as an engineer instead, which Collins also declined.

Collins, who had called games for Boston College for 13 seasons, including under three different head coaches and five different athletic directors, expressed his disappointment in the way the situation was handled. He emphasized that Murray, who is a young head coach with no experience, was given the power to remove two individuals who had only sought to serve and promote the program.

Collins currently supports Boston College, stating that he will always be an Eagle, but he finds Murray's decision to remove him and Maurer unjust. Murray, who was hired in March and is the son of actor Bill Murray, stated that the program will be defined by a standard of excellence and an unselfish, tough, and highly competitive brand of basketball.
