Arizona football hopeful to add RB Ismail Mahdi, LB Max Harris for 2026 season

TEMPE, Arizona - November 28, 2025 - Arizona football coach Brent Brennan expressed optimism regarding the possibility of bringing back two key players for the 2026 season. The decision hinges on a recent ruling by a federal judge in Colorado, which grants former Arizona players who graduated high school in 2022 eligibility for the 2026-27 season. The two players in question are running back Ismail Mahdi and linebacker Max Harris, both of whom played for the Wildcats in 2025.

Coach Brennan confirmed that the program is actively considering Mahdi's and Harris's return, emphasizing the importance of their potential addition. Mahdi, who recently opened a barbecue restaurant in Marana, Arizona, had an impressive 2025 season, starting 10 games and leading the team in rushing with 859 yards. Harris, who also transferred from Texas State, amassed 78 tackles in 2025, including 3.5 for loss.

Both players would likely require time to regain their physical condition; however, their reintegration into the team should not be hindered by chemistry issues. The players were previously part of Arizona's Leadership Council, and Brennan is confident that their return would enhance the team's competition and overall performance. The addition of Harris would strengthen the front seven, while Mahdi would bolster the running back corps, which already features seniors Kedrick Reescano and Quincy Craig.
