Apple is finally bringing one of my favorite Continuity features to Windows

Apple is set to introduce a Continuity feature to Windows PCs, allowing users to copy and paste content between their iPhone and Windows computer without the need for third-party software. This feature, known as Universal Clipboard, has been a favorite among Apple users for its convenience. The idea was submitted by Microsoft to Apple's EU interoperability program, which is a requirement under the Digital Markets Act.

Apple began reviewing the request in March and provided a project plan by June 26. Microsoft explained that the feature would allow users to copy and paste content between their iPhone and Windows PC effortlessly. The implementation would rely on Apple's AccessorySetupKit, a system already used for pairing third-party wearables in the EU.

Users would grant permission for their Windows PC to receive content from their iPhone's pasteboard, after which the syncing would occur in the background. However, Apple has cautioned that the development of this feature is a substantial engineering task, and it is not expected to be fully implemented until fall 2027. The feature will initially be released as a developer beta, likely not reaching regular users until early 2028.

It is also possible that the feature will initially be limited to the EU, similar to how wearable pairing and notification forwarding for third-party accessories were initially rolled out in Europe. While the feature is still in the planning stages, it presents an interesting development in Apple's efforts to expand its ecosystem beyond its native devices.
