Zelensky dismisses Ukraine’s ambassador to US

Kyiv, Ukraine - President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, in a decree published on Monday. Stefanishyna had been serving in her role for nearly a year. Her resignation, which was anticipated for several weeks, comes amid a series of recent reshuffles of top Ukrainian officials.

This includes the recent appointment of a new prime minister and defense minister. The Ukrainian government is also expected to carry out a broader diplomatic and ambassadorial reshuffle.

Stefanishyna announced her decision to leave her position on Facebook, attributing it to personal circumstances. In her message, she highlighted her accomplishments during her tenure, stating that they had successfully boosted the supply of American weaponry and maintained support for Ukraine even when the political climate in Washington was unfavorable.

Ukrainian state broadcaster Suspilne quoted Stefanishyna last week, denying that Zelensky had requested her resignation. She stated that she would address any other questions regarding her circumstances that had emerged in the media.

According to Ukrainian media, Stefanishyna informed the president of her intention to resign last month. Reports also suggested that she had been under scrutiny due to ongoing investigations into potential irregularities in her asset declaration.
