Suicide bombing kills at least 14 people in Pakistan’s Swat Valley

A suspected suicide bombing in northwestern Pakistan resulted in at least 14 fatalities and 18 injuries, according to rescue officials and a regional police spokesperson. The incident occurred outside a police station in Kabal, Swat district, part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. A pro-police rally of local residents was ongoing at the time, but it remains uncertain if the rally was the intended target.

Five police officers, eight civilians, and the suicide bomber were among the casualties. The 14th person, identified as the bomber, is yet to be confirmed. At least 18 individuals were injured in the attack, as reported by a police statement. An operation has been initiated to apprehend any individuals who may have aided the assailant.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militant group claimed responsibility for the bombing. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the suicide blast. Militancy in Pakistan's border regions has intensified recently, primarily targeting military and police personnel. The Pakistani government attributes the surge in violence to the Afghan Taliban, alleging their support for the militants. However, the Taliban denies these accusations.
