Social Democrat leader promises a safer, richer Sweden at election tour launch

Opposition Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson launched her election tour on Monday, introducing a new slogan "Time to take Sweden seriously", according to a press conference outside her party's Stockholm headquarters and an article in Expressen newspaper. Andersson expressed concern over the election occurring at a time when the world has become more dangerous and unpredictable.

She criticized the current government's management, labeling it as marked by divisive politics, failure, short-termism, and misplaced priorities.

Andersson noted that hardworking Swedes have become poorer and Sweden has experienced high unemployment, lower-than-expected growth, a record number of bankruptcies, and issues in various sectors such as climate policy, education, and healthcare. If elected, she vowed to focus on making Sweden safer, richer, and more cohesive. To achieve these goals, her government would strengthen military and civil defense, increase police presence, impose stricter penalties for crimes, introduce stronger anti-recruitment measures for gun crime, and pass a law to tackle gang leaders.

To boost Sweden's economy, Andersson proposed promoting technological advancements that would reduce emissions, increasing child benefits, eliminating the first unpaid day of sick leave, improving pensions, and lowering medication costs. She aimed to ensure that everyone in Sweden learns Swedish, foster closer collaboration between government and various sectors, and push for wide-ranging collaborations in parliament.

Andersson declined to comment on potential cooperation with the Christian Democrats on healthcare state control, stating that the focus should be on proper financing for regional equality. The tour bus will continue to Uppsala, Furuvik, Falun, Borlänge, Karlstad, Arboga, and Eskilstuna, with Andersson accompanied by finance spokesperson Mikael Damberg.
