PK breaches BJP fort: Prashant Kishor set to be MLA from Bihar's Bankipur on debut

Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, has secured a historic victory in Bihar's Bankipur assembly bypoll, marking his electoral debut and the party's first-ever seat in the state legislature. The 48-year-old Kishor emerged victorious with approximately 50% of the votes, defeating the BJP's Neeraj Kumar Sinha and the RJD's Rekha Gupta.

Kishor emphasized that this election was not a typical one, stating it was a message from the people of Bihar to the BJP's central leadership to appoint a capable Chief Minister who could improve education, employment, and curb migration. Kishor's party aims for genuine development in Bihar, rejecting the notion of becoming MLAs solely to award contracts.

The Bankipur bypoll, held on July 30, saw a voter turnout of 34.3%, a significant drop from 41.45% in the previous assembly elections. The seat was vacated by Nitin Nabin, who joined the BJP's national president position and the Rajya Sabha. The BJP replaced its original candidate, 32-year-old Neeraj Kumar Sinha, citing family reasons following his withdrawal.

Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party campaigned on governance, education, employment, and corruption, positioning itself as an alternative to the ruling NDA and the RJD-Congress Mahagathbandhan.
