Putra Heights residents still awaiting probe report on gas line blaze

Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru residents' welfare association secretary Badly Nordin has reiterated the demand for an update on the independent report concerning the Putra Heights gas line explosion that took place on April 1 last year. The blast caused the destruction of 87 houses and damage to 148 others, affecting over 1,200 individuals residing in the area.

Despite many residents resuming their work and some even relocating, the association remains committed to pushing the Selangor government until the complete report is made public, according to Utusan Malaysia.

Nordin emphasized that the residents are eager to receive a comprehensive explanation regarding the incident, as they have the right to understand the causes and consequences. He also expressed frustration over the ongoing delay, questioning the length of time it takes to provide a proper explanation. The residents' association had previously requested clarification on the status of the independent report in early May, with menteri besar Amirudin Shari stating that the report would be released as soon as possible.

However, he mentioned that certain matters involving federal agencies and legal proceedings needed to be addressed before the report's disclosure.

The independent committee responsible for investigating the incident consisted of eight professionals from relevant fields, chaired by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia senior research fellow Khamarrul Azahari Razak. In October last year, 36 residents filed a civil suit against five parties, including the Subang Jaya City Council and Petronas Gas, at the Shah Alam High Court in relation to the explosion.
