One dead, two missing so far as heavy rain continues to batter Kerala’s Kannur

Heavy monsoon rains in Kannur district of Kerala have caused one death, two injuries, and left two others missing, as of Monday. The torrential downpour has affected 32 villages, with flooding reported in 13 of them. Authorities have recorded five landslides, though no major landslides have been reported. Damage to 60 houses has been reported, with two completely destroyed and 58 partially damaged.

The Pazhassi barrage continues to discharge substantial amounts of water, with an inflow of 1,288.605 cubic meters per second and an outflow of 1,14.132 cumecs through the spillway. At the time of recording, water storage stood at 1.666 million cubic meters, with the water level at 16.75 meters. Of the barrage's 16 spillway shutters, 15 were open, while one remained closed.

The Left Bank Canal shutters remained fully closed. Authorities have advised residents living along riverbanks and in low-lying areas to stay vigilant as heavy inflows continue into the reservoir.
