NPP must put aside personal differences to regain power – Paul Afoko

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Paul Afoko has emphasized that the party's return to political power hinges on resolving internal divisions. Speaking to JoyNews, Mr Afoko affirmed his confidence in winning the NPP’s upcoming national chairmanship, yet stressed that unity should take precedence over personal vendettas. He stated, "If I don’t win, then it means the party wants to continue the way it is, and that my ideas are not necessary, my experience is to be discarded."

Regardless of the outcome, Afoko pledged to continue advocating for unity within the party. He clarified that victory or defeat would signal the direction the party desires, and his continued commitment to the party would remain steadfast. "But I will still ask for unity," he added. While not suggesting a return to personal friendships, Afoko argued that reunification should be measured by members' ability to collaborate without resentment.

He now interacts amicably with former rivals, no longer harboring bitterness. Mr Afoko stressed that political unity should not equate to personal camaraderie. He reiterated that the NPP's pursuit of power should be driven by a commitment to improving Ghanaian lives, not merely regaining government seats. He urged party members to recognize the responsibility that comes with political office, emphasizing that power should be wielded for the nation's benefit.

Unity, according to Afoko, requires more than declarations—it demands the conscious abandonment of past grievances in pursuit of the party’s collective interests. His confidence in regaining the chairmanship stems from his belief that members will ultimately trust his leadership. His goal, however, transcends personal ambition; it is to foster an environment where members can work together without suspicion or hostility, ultimately serving the Ghanaian people.
