Government’s fiscal consolidation has suppressed development – Gideon Boako

Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament's Finance Committee, Dr Gideon Boako, has expressed concerns over the government's fiscal consolidation strategy, stating that it has hindered national development. Dr Boako, representing Tano North, maintains that the measures under the government's economic program are not a testament to fiscal discipline but rather a decrease in development activities.

In a Facebook post, he questioned the quality of the fiscal consolidation, asserting that it is more of a suppression of development than actual consolidation.

Boako emphasized that while the government has emphasized economic stabilization efforts, the impact of these policies should be evaluated based on their effects on businesses, households, and the broader economy. He highlighted the surge in the prices of essential commodities, such as fuel and food items, as proof that many Ghanaians continue to struggle economically, even as the IMF program winds down.

Dr Boako called for a reevaluation of the government's economic approach, asserting that sustainable recovery must be determined by the enhancement of living conditions and the creation of more opportunities for citizens.
