Missing weapon, forensic inconsistencies puzzle investigators in Raza ‘murder’ case

Karachi police are investigating the mysterious death of 25-year-old Mir Raza Ali Khan, an aspiring businessman and former IBA student. The body of the former student was found with a gunshot wound in bushes near Shahi Qila in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, two days after he was reported missing. Initially, investigators believed the death to be a suicide, but inconsistencies in the evidence have led them to question this theory.

The investigation has revealed that Raza had recently suffered financial losses and was reportedly facing difficulties. Sources state that Raza left his home early in the morning, after closing his shop and taking a pistol with him. He returned to his shop later and left the keys to his car and house behind. He also left his watch and some cash for his mother. CCTV footage showed Raza roaming around the area before his body was found, with no one else seen with him.

Raza's mobile phone was recovered from the location of his body, but his pistol holster was found hanging from a nearby tree. The pistol itself has not been recovered. Doctors found that the bullet had been fired close range into Raza's chest, yet no gunshot residue was detected on his hands. This is an unusual occurrence, as gun residue is typically found on the hands of a person who has committed suicide with a firearm. It's possible that the residue was no longer detectable due to the decomposition of his body.

Another inconsistency involves Raza's financial dealings. He had reportedly borrowed Rs30 million from an investor, but the request was denied. His fiancée also expressed concerns about his obsession with Bitcoin investments and mentioned that he had sent her a message late at night, which he did not receive since he was offline. Despite these irregularities, investigators remain hopeful that they will resolve the case within a short time.
