MBKT tanggung RM40,000 bersih 130 tan sampah di tapak RXZ Members 8.0

Kota Kuala Terengganu's municipal council, Majlis Bandaraya Kuala Terengganu (MBKT), has committed RM40,000 to clean up 130 tons of waste generated by the RXZ Members 8.0 event held at the Gong Badak Motor Race Circuit near Kuala Nerus. The cleanup operation took place from Friday to Saturday, according to Datuk Bandar Kuala Terengganu, Lizan Che Mamat. The costs include wages for workers, additional transportation of lorries and time spent operating at the waste collection site in Sungai Ikan.

Despite providing bins at the location, Che Mamat acknowledged that some participants still littered. Approximately 130 tons of waste, mostly plastic food and drink containers, were collected from the event site. The council is aware that the provision of bins might be insufficient due to the large number of attendees, which exceeded 100,000. However, waste should be collected in a designated area rather than scattered randomly, he said.

In response, Che Mamat announced that MBKT will investigate the requirement for organizers of large-scale events to submit waste management plans as a condition for approval. This measure will also be used to reassess the cleanliness deposit fee to reduce the financial burden on local authorities. The council strongly urges the promotion of any large-scale activities or programs in Terengganu, as they can stimulate the tourism sector and the economy. However, they remind everyone that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
