Loke lepas jawatan ketua DAP Negeri Sembilan

DAP Deputy President Loke Siew Fook has stepped down as the chairman of DAP Negeri Sembilan after losing the Chennah by-election. The news emerged following the party's poor performance in the recent PRN Negeri Sembilan general election. Loke announced his resignation during a media briefing after the central committee meeting of DAP, late last night.

He believes this is the best time to hand over leadership of the state to someone else after 22 years in the position, adding that he felt proud of leading DAP Negeri Sembilan since 2002, growing its representation from just two members in 2004 to 11 in the 2023 PRN. Loke stated he was not forced out of the position and resigned of his own accord due to responsibility for the two losses.

The DAP Negeri Sembilan leadership will convene soon to elect a new chairman, he said. Loke previously said he would consider stepping down as the DAP Negeri Sembilan chairman after losing Chennah, where he was defeated by MCA candidate Siow Kong Choon by a margin of 688 votes on Saturday, effectively ending his three-term tenure in the constituency.

Loke previously served as the Lobak ADUN from 2004 to 2013 and represented Chennah from 2013. He remains an MP for Seremban for three consecutive terms. At the media briefing, National Deputy President Gobind Singh Deo and Lim Guan Eng's adviser confirmed the CEC favored Loke staying on as deputy president. Meanwhile, Loke announced a DAP congress will be held on August 16, and a vote on whether DAP should remain in government will be put to party representatives.
