'If even one allegation was proved...': Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh reacts after acquittal in wrestlers' sexual harassment

Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh expressed joy after being acquitted in a sexual harassment case filed by six women wrestlers. Singh stated that the court's decision vindicated his stance since the allegations first emerged. He had previously declared that if any allegation against him were proven, he would be ready to face the harshest punishment.

The trial concluded nearly two years after it began, with Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar of the Rouse Avenue Courts acquitting Singh and former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar. The charges against them included assault, sexual harassment, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code. The sexual harassment allegations led to protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar in 2023, demanding Singh's removal as WFI chief.

Singh and Tomar were removed from their positions following the allegations, but the protests resumed in April 2023 after the Union Sports Ministry assured the wrestlers that a committee would investigate the accusations.
