FM, Gaza envoy discuss implementation of US-backed peace plan

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Badr Abdelatty, engaged in a phone conversation with the High Representative for Gaza, Nikolay Mladenov, on Sunday, August 2, 2026. The discussion centered on the progress of implementing the commitments outlined in the US-backed Gaza peace plan. Abdelatty emphasized the critical nature of adhering to the first-phase commitments, which include ensuring the timely and secure delivery of humanitarian aid, guaranteeing the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and accelerating the recovery and reconstruction processes.

Both parties also deliberated on the subsequent phase, with Abdelatty highlighting the National Committee for Gaza Administration's role in managing the transitional period and maintaining the unity of Palestinian territories. Abdelatty stressed the necessity for all parties to fulfill their commitments and avoid actions that could jeopardize the plan's implementation, in order to foster security, stability, and peace across the region.
