European soccer body UEFA warns FIFA of legal action over Infantino’s failed World Cup sell-off plan

The European soccer federation, UEFA, has issued a stern warning to FIFA President Gianni Infantino over his unsuccessful plan to sell shares in future World Cup profits to private investors. The legal threat was made following a proposal that, once leaked, sparked widespread outrage and criticism. Infantino's plan, estimated to generate $4.2 billion, was abandoned just days after its revelation.

UEFA, in response, rallied its 55 member federations who vowed to boycott any FIFA events and competitions while the proposal was active. Consequently, UEFA's legal team has informed FIFA that they are "actively considering legal action, arbitration, and/or regulatory complaints" related to the FFE (FIFA Forward Enterprise) plan.

The letter from Dechert, a New York-based law firm, identified 18 FIFA executives who should preserve data, documents, and electronic communications as potential evidence. The letter serves as a formal warning that any destruction, alteration, concealment, or loss of relevant materials may be deemed as spoliation of evidence.
