Drone slams into Russian beach, killing at least 7 people

Eleven people lost their lives and numerous others were injured following Ukrainian strikes on a Russian beach resort and the Crimean Peninsula. Footage on social media captured a drone crashing into a crowded beach in Arkhipo-Osipovka, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, three of whom were children, according to a post from Russia's southern Krasnodar region crisis task force.

Governor Venyamin Kondratyev confirmed the attack, stating that Ukraine had struck the resort with a drone. The Russian health ministry reported that 21 people, including three children, were rushed to the hospital, with nine in critical condition. Special medical teams were dispatched to the resort area. Additionally, four people were killed in a separate Ukrainian strike on Russia-annexed Crimea.

Both locations are popular summer destinations for Russian tourists. The United Nations has observed a rise in civilian deaths in the Russia-Ukraine conflict throughout 2026, as the four-and-a-half-year war continues without a peace agreement. Neither Ukraine nor Russia, which both deny deliberately targeting civilians in the ongoing war that began in 2022, have commented on the recent strikes.
