Country’s ethos should reflect in curriculum of educational institutions: Tamil Nadu Governor Arlekar

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar emphasized on Monday that the nation's ethos should be reflected in the curriculum and syllabus of educational institutions during the inauguration of a national conclave at the B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (BSACIST). He stressed that the country's ethos should guide the educational system, which must be coherent with the shared culture and values of all citizens, not alien to this land.

Governor Arlekar called for educational institutions to become "job-givers" rather than merely "job-seekers" by establishing entrepreneurship development cells. Abdul Qadir A. Rahman Buhari, pro-chancellor of BSACIST, highlighted that the institute has been incubating startups since seven years and has nurtured 158 startups, with 80 graduating and creating over 1,000 jobs. The startups have raised ₹480 crore in equity, debt, and grants, valued at approximately ₹3,200 crore.

Shahid Akhter, a member of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, mentioned that the NCMEI has recognized 14,364 minority educational institutions, including 1,175 in Tamil Nadu. Quoting data from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Akhter revealed that over 68% of students studying in minority institutions come from diverse backgrounds. Various officials, including Indresh Kumar, P.C.R. Suresh, A. Peer Mohamed, B. Raja Hussain, and Ayub Khan Dawood, also addressed the audience.
