Auqib Nabi replaces injured Jasprit Bumrah for Test series in Sri Lanka

Jasprit Bumrah, the star pacer, will miss the forthcoming two Test series against Sri Lanka scheduled to commence in Galle on August 15, according to sources. The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has decided that it is not safe to reintroduce him into the game due to ongoing discomfort in his left knee. The BCCI medical team had previously recommended an injection to address the knee issue that emerged during the T20 World Cup.

Despite receiving the injection last month, Bumrah's full recovery may take longer than expected. Discussions have ensued around his potential readiness for the second Test in Colombo, however, the medical team at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) is unwilling to take any risks. The BCCI had initially planned for Bumrah to join the team in Mumbai on August 3 for the August 4 departure, but that has been scrapped in light of his ongoing recovery.

In the past, players have been hastily returned to cricket, leading to further injuries, and Bumrah's situation necessitates a cautious approach. To fill the void, the senior selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, is expected to name a replacement. Auqib Nabi, the 29-year-old pace bowler from Jammu & Kashmir, is the frontrunner, given his consistent form in domestic cricket and his recent participation in the India A team tour of Sri Lanka.

Other potential replacements include Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar, and Prasidh Krishna, who make up India's pace attack.
