Trump 'cancels' Iran strikes as Israeli attacks on Gaza continue

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi informed his Turkish, Pakistani, and Saudi counterparts that the Islamic Republic would respond "decisively" to any further US "aggression". Despite this, US President Donald Trump, in a statement on his Truth Social platform later that night, agreed to cancel an attack on Iran in order to facilitate a rapid deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end Iran's nuclear threat, provided Israel committed to the same.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had previously urged Trump to de-escalate tensions and refrain from launching strikes. Meanwhile, Israeli attacks on Gaza continued, resulting in the deaths of nine Palestinians, including three children, on Sunday. Hamas representatives met with leaders from Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Cairo, calling for an end to the military offensive and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Hamas insisted on retaining its weapons until these conditions were met. US-Iran tensions remain high, with Trump stating that the "Board of Peace" would collect Hamas's weapons as the group disarms, a claim contradicted by the board itself.
