'Threw slipper, carried a knife': What we know about attack on Pappu Yadav

A press conference by Independent MP Pappu Yadav was disrupted in Delhi on Sunday after a confrontation erupted between his supporters and a group of men. Yadav's media convenor alleged that the MP was targeted with a knife, attempting to replicate the Atiq Ahmed incident. As Yadav was speaking to the media, three or four men approached him, resulting in an altercation.

According to his convenor, one man threw a slipper before another attacker drew a knife. The attackers first hurled a slipper, then drew a knife to strike. Yadav's convenor was beaten severely, losing consciousness after being assaulted by two or three individuals. A supporter of Yadav said he instinctively shielded the MP, causing the knife to graze his finger.

The situation turned chaotic, with people falling onto each other. Yadav's convenor claimed that police personnel present did not intervene, instead focusing on escorting the alleged attackers away. Yadav's convenor alleged that the men came to stage a "Prayagraj Part Two," replicating the 2023 killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother during police custody.

He also claimed that several people were positioned behind the media cameras, pulling out a knife and a slipper, with the MP being the sole target.
