Tarik Skubal makes Dodgers debut Tuesday at Wrigley Field

Los Angeles, August 27, 2025 - New pitcher Tarik Skubal will make his Dodgers debut on Tuesday during a game at Wrigley Field, part of a road series against the Chicago Cubs. The Dodgers finalized their trade for Skubal on Sunday, acquiring him from the Detroit Tigers, who recently won the last two American League Cy Young Awards.

In return, the Tigers received River Ryan, along with minor league players Zyhir Hope and Brady Smith. Skubal's last appearance for the Tigers was on August 22, where he pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing 92 pitches in a game against the Baltimore Orioles. Standing at 2.79 ERA over 16 starts, Skubal has 116 strikeouts and 14 walks this season.

He will be on the mound for five days' rest against the Cubs, which will be his first career start at Wrigley Field. Dodgers president of baseball operations stated that Skubal will replace Eric Lauer, who is currently in a more prominent bullpen role. Lauer, acquired from the Blue Jays on May 17 after being designated for assignment, has a 2.96 ERA and 4.06 xERA in nine appearances with the Dodgers, including eight starts and one relief appearance.

The Dodgers' rotation features Justin Wrobleski, Roki Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Emmet Sheehan, and Blake Snell, with potential returns of Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani. Skubal, who was in West Sacramento with the Tigers for a weekend game, is expected to join the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
