Skubal to the Dodgers, per reports

The Detroit Tigers have reportedly traded starting pitcher Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to multiple reports. Skubal, who is a two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, led the league in ERA in 2024 and 2025. In return, the Tigers are acquiring minor league outfielder Zyhir Hope, and pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith.

Skubal's salary in arbitration this past season was a record $32 million, and he is expected to be a free agent after the season. Despite a stint on the injured list due to elbow surgery, Skubal has maintained a 2.79 ERA in 16 starts this year, covering 96.2 innings. The Dodgers' rotation currently features Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Wrobleski, and the addition of Skubal strengthens their top three starters for the playoffs.

Shohei Ohtani, a key player for the Dodgers, is currently sidelined and his return is uncertain. The Tigers receive Hope, a highly rated prospect at 21, and Ryan, a 28-year-old 11th round pick, as well as Smith, a 21-year-old 3rd round pick who began pitching professionally in 2025 after Tommy John surgery.
