Tamil Nadu government drops use of ‘CM’s Thayumanavar Scheme’ in its official communications

The Tamil Nadu government has eliminated the term "CM’s Thayumanavar Scheme" from its official communications, replacing it with a more descriptive phrase for a scheme that delivers essential commodities to senior citizens and persons with disabilities via their doors. This change was announced in a recent shift in the State government's communication strategy.

The original scheme was initiated by the previous DMK administration led by M.K. Stalin. In addition to this renaming, the government also appointed Guru, a founder of an online Vijay fan club, to lead the Tamil Nadu Fact Check Unit, a body set up by the previous DMK government to counter fake news, especially on social media. The Fact Check Unit has been renamed the Information Integrity Desk, but this alteration has not been officially published yet.

Despite this, the unit still uses its previous title on the social media platform X. The new administration has been actively renaming several schemes introduced by its predecessor, such as changing the women's free bus travel scheme from Magalir Vidiyal Payanam to Magalir Payanam, and altering the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme.
