Sudden evening showers lash parts of Hyderabad on August 2

On August 2, Hyderabad experienced a sudden shift in weather, with warm afternoon sunshine giving way to dark clouds and unexpected showers. The transition caught many commuters off guard, leading to brief waterlogging in a few areas of the city. Thick clouds enveloped central, western, and northern Hyderabad, followed by intermittent rainstorms.

Motorists and pedestrians who had ventured out under sunny conditions found themselves unexpectedly drenched. According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), rainfall was recorded at various locations in the city by 6 p.m. Keesara reported an accumulation of 18.3 mm, while Khairatabad, Banjara Hills, Gunfoundry, Masab Tank, Shaikpet, Gachibowli, Safilguda, and Filmnagar experienced rainfall of 17.8 mm, 14.3 mm, 13 mm, 12.3 mm, 12 mm, 10.5 mm, 9.5 mm, and 9 mm respectively.

To manage the situation, traffic police personnel from the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri commissionerates were swiftly deployed at major intersections. Their presence aimed to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent congestion caused by the sudden downpour. Additionally, Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) were deployed to clear waterlogged stretches, mitigating potential hazards.

The rapid weather change served as a stark reminder of the city's vulnerability to sudden showers, highlighting the importance of preparedness measures and efficient emergency response systems.
