DAP must rally behind Loke as party braces for tougher times, says Sim

Penang DAP chief Steven Sim urged the party to rally behind secretary-general Loke Siew Fook amid looming tougher political hurdles following Loke's unexpected defeat in the Chennah seat. Loke, who has held the constituency since 2013, lost to Barisan Nasional's MCA candidate Siow Kong Choon by a margin of 688 votes in the recent Negeri Sembilan election.

Sim, who also serves as DAP deputy secretary-general, commended Loke's resolve and bravery in defending a challenging seat, stating that they must continue to stand united and firmly support Loke's leadership in the face of forthcoming difficulties.

The DAP suffered significant setbacks in the Negeri Sembilan local elections, losing not only Chennah but also Repah, another long-held seat, to MCA. However, the party retained nine other seats. Sim expressed gratitude to Negeri Sembilan voters for helping the party maintain nine seats but emphasized that both DAP and Pakatan Harapan should reflect on the overall outcome and learn lessons for future strategies.

Sim did not directly comment on the likelihood of Pakatan Harapan facing a similar defeat in the upcoming Penang state election, but stressed the importance of hard work and maintaining public trust, adding that election preparations should commence immediately after the dissolution of the previous parliament or state assembly.
