British prime minister says Infantino is not the right man to lead FIFA

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham expressed his belief on Sunday that FIFA President Gianni Infantino is not the suitable individual to lead world soccer's governing body, following the cancellation of the recently proposed sale of World Cup stakes to private investors. Burnham stated that the original plan was offensive to many people involved in football around the globe and could not be ignored as it was deemed unacceptable.

On Saturday, UEFA, the governing body for European soccer, expressed its loss of confidence in FIFA's leadership, which could potentially lead to a challenge on Infantino's presidency. The North and Central American and Caribbean soccer (CONCACAF) governing body also announced that they had lost faith in FIFA's leadership. They claimed that the FIFA leadership had ceased prioritizing football.

Infantino faced a backlash after he proposed to sell World Cup profits through a commercial subsidiary that would manage the top competitions. The plan collapsed following UEFA's 55 member nations' decision to boycott the World Cup and all other FIFA competitions on Thursday. CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation also expressed their disagreement with Infantino's proposal.

Despite Infantino backtracking on his controversial plans, UEFA declared that it would collaborate with other confederations to devise a strategy to prevent such incidents from happening again. The governing body emphasized that no option should be ruled out. Burnham's comments further highlighted the anger stemming from Infantino's plans.
