American Airlines cancels flights to Tel Aviv from NY's JFK Airport until at least March 2027

American Airlines has indefinitely suspended its flights from New York's JFK Airport to Israel's Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, with the halt set to persist until at least March 2027, according to a recent report by N12 News. This decision was made in the aftermath of the Hamas-led October 7 massacre, which caused the carrier to discontinue its service from JFK to Tel Aviv as of October 2023.

A thorough investigation by the Jerusalem Post revealed that at present, no one-way flights are operational on this route, with the possibility of resuming services starting in early April 2027. American Airlines' official website confirms that a waiver is in effect for all passengers impacted by these cancellations, offering them the option of either a free change or a full refund.

Additionally, the airline has similarly halted operations to Doha, Qatar, until at least January 2027, citing regional unrest, a move that provides affected passengers with comparable alternatives.

Despite initially announcing its intention to resume flights to Israel in March 2026, including a new route from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv, American Airlines failed to materialize these plans. This scenario mirrors the experiences of competing US carriers Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, which also suspended their Israel flights.

However, both companies are projected to re-establish their services before the year 2026 concludes, as they had intermittently operated the flights since the October 7 attacks, pausing them as tensions in the region escalated. Furthermore, American Airlines had previously operated a route from Miami to Tel Aviv, but this service was discontinued prior to October 2023 due to operational reasons, thereby leaving Israeli carrier El Al as the exclusive operator on this route.
