Sam Altman is still making the case for parenting via ChatGPT

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, shared a promising use case for his company's new product, ChatGPT Work, on Friday. He envisioned a system where parents could link their family calendars and let ChatGPT generate a daily podcast for their children, discussing topics like soccer games, upcoming birthdays, and relevant news. This idea quickly drew mixed reactions, with renowned animated series creator Alex Hirsch jokingly suggesting that talking to one's children directly might be simpler.

Despite the backlash, Altman's post garnered significant attention, with his comment being shared nearly 300 times and receiving around 9,600 likes on social media.

Altman's proposal echoes similar claims made by other tech leaders. Last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed he stopped listening to podcasts during his morning commute and instead consulted an AI chatbot for recommendations. Altman has previously discussed parenting, even appearing on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" and praising the potential of ChatGPT in raising a newborn. However, he also acknowledged that people had managed to raise children without it for many years.

OpenAI is actively seeking to attract parents to their AI product, recently posting a job listing for a product manager experienced in building trustworthy consumer experiences for families. Meanwhile, Meta is testing an AI-powered app that creates bedtime stories. Despite these efforts, OpenAI faces numerous lawsuits from parents and families who claim that ChatGPT contributed to delusions or even suicides among their loved ones.

The company has stated that they are working on improving the model's responses in sensitive interactions.
