Rentenreform: CDU-Führung besteht auf Abschaffung der „Rente mit 63“

Berlin - The CDU leadership has made it clear in an internal party dispute that they are committed to abolishing the "Rente mit 63" or early retirement without a contribution. Union faction chief Thorsten Frei and the new General Secretary, Franziska Hoppermann, emphasized that the CDU stands by the abolition of this benefit as part of a broader pension reform package.

Hoppermann told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur that the reform is designed to be balanced as a whole. Removing individual political points, such as the "Rente mit 63," would endanger the compromise's viability. "This must be a guiding principle for both coalition partners," she said. "Our goal remains a reliable pension that recognizes life's contribution and is also affordable for younger generations."

Frei commented in the "Bild" newspaper that the Rentenkommission's proposal for the "Rente mit 63" is "absolutely correct" and "a really clever proposal." Referring to the Rentenkommission's suggestions, he stated that the CDU aims to implement the entire reform package, including its core elements, in both the coalition and personally.
