Nick Yelloly leads Acura 1-2 in IMSA Road America qualifying

Nick Yelloly led a 1-2 sweep for Acura Meyer Shank Racing in IMSA Road America qualifying. Yelloly, 35, posted a lap of 1 minute 49.233 seconds in the #93 Acura ARX-06 to secure the top position on the 4.048-mile, 14-turn natural-terrain road course. His teammate Tom Blomqvist finished second, just 0.157 seconds behind. Sheldon Van Der Linde's BMW M Team WRT car secured third place, ahead of Louis Deletraz in the #40 Cadillac V-Series.

Deletraz set the fastest lap of the session with a 1 minute 50.703 seconds lap. The session saw some high-speed action as well, with Laurens Vanthoor's Porsche 963 briefly exiting Turn 5 before recovering to finish fifth. Daniel Goldburg of United Autosport USA took the class pole for the season with a 1 minute 54.212 seconds lap, edging out Misha Goikhberg by 0.262 seconds.

Jeremy Clarke of Inter Europol Competition's ORECA LMP2 car rounded out the top five, followed by AO Racing's PJ Hyett. Nick Tandy and Harry King from AO Racing claimed class pole in the #77 Porsche 911 GT3 R, with King delivering a best lap of 2 minutes 4.042 seconds, just 0.140 seconds ahead of points leader Neil Verhagen. Alexander Sims from Corvette Racing secured third place, while Max Esterson from RLL Team McLaren took fourth.

Manthey's Klaus Bachler's car experienced one of its laps invalidated due to exceeding track limits and ended up fifth.
