Honda has a new partner for the advancement of solid-state battery technology

Honda has recently entered into a partnership with QuantumScape, an American battery development firm, to advance solid-state battery technology. The decision comes as Honda prepares to produce its much-anticipated solid-state battery system, aiming for carbon neutrality. This partnership, announced in June 2026, may signify a shift in Honda's EV strategy, prioritizing solid-state battery development over existing technology.

The collaboration will focus on researching and developing solid-state batteries and their manufacturing techniques. Honda will likely leverage QuantumScape's expertise in developing next-generation solid-state lithium-metal batteries to achieve benefits such as longer range, faster charging speeds, lower costs, and heightened safety. QuantumScape has previously partnered with Volkswagen's battery company PowerCo SE, highlighting the growing market confidence in its solid-state battery technology.

The new partnership could contribute to Honda's broader goals of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 and potentially delivering a solid-state EV by the end of the decade.
